The City of Dania Beach was incorporated in 1904 as Broward’s first city. Dania Beach has earned Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification from the US Green Building Council, the nation’s lead governing body on sustainable design. The Dania Beach Nanofiltration Water Treatment Plant is the first LEED Gold Certified Water Plant in the world. The Dania Beach-Paul DeMaio Library building also achieved LEED Gold certification. SeaTech, FAU's Institute for Ocean and Systems Engineering, is the nation's first ocean engineering program. The world-class faculty is engaged in research and technology development in the areas of acoustics, marine vehicles, hydrodynamics and physical oceanography, marine materials, and nanocomposites. The City’s extensive recreation program includes a beach and fishing pier, pools, tennis courts, neighborhood parks and community centers that provide a wide variety of programs for youth, adults and senior citizens.

We are a densely populated city of 12,000 people with ten square miles of land. Our mayor has joined the Monarch Pledge, which is well underway. We have an active Conservation Commission spearheading an effort to encourage residents to provide habitat. The Sustainability Committee is assisting. Beech Mountain is the highest town in eastern America, peaking at 5506'. With 618 full-time residents in an area of six square miles, the low population density is attractive for a wide variety of wildlife. As a resort town, winter skiing and summer mountain biking, hiking, fishing, golfing and events bring an additional 5,000 to 10,000 people seasonally. Education about how to respect our environment and wildlife is ongoing through outreach, programming, and constant media via our two TV stations and our public information radio station. Howell Township is a township in Monmouth County, New Jersey. There are numerous crop farms, thoroughbred farms, and nurseries in the township. The Manasquan Reservoir located in Howell offers nature and exercise related activities such as fishing, bird watching, jogging, biking, dog walking. The reservoir also has a nature exhibit where people can go see the local wildlife.

In Mendham Township streams tumble through hilly landscapes of historic homes and winding tree-lined roads. The long-established hamlets of Brookside and Ralston are located within the township and both are listed among the National Register of Historic Places. The township has over 850 acres of parks and natural areas, 55 miles of walking trails and contains the headwaters of three major rivers, the Whippany, Raritan & Passaic. The Mendham Township Environmental Commission and the Mendham Borough Joint Environmental, Open Space, Shade Tree (ECOSST) Commission are leading the certification project in the Mendhams.

Long known for its history of environmental stewardship, the town boasts significant wooded areas, various parks, forest preserves, and stunning ravines. Highland Park is also home to the Ravinia Music Festival a 3,200 seat open-air pavilion that is the summer home of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the go-to performance venue for pop, jazz, and Latin concerts as well. Bordering Highland Park is the Chicago Botanic Garden, a 385-acre living plant museum and horticultural education center.
