We are a community of 208 homes built in the late seventies. We also share a 7-acre tract of undeveloped flood zone. Each lot averages 1/2 to 3/4 of an acre, a few are larger. Due to size & age of lots we have many hardwoods and areas for wildlife to make their habitat. We have regularly seen deer, turkey, fox, coyote, opossum, chipmunks, raccoons and have a variety of birdlife. We have several creeks that connect with adjoining communities and their lakes. We are incorporated as a non-profit association and operate with a board of volunteer members. Activities are achieved through the involvement of the residents.

Description

Bull Point is a small but growing community, with about 70 out of 240 lots built out so far, located near Beaufort, SC.. Residents have been drawn to this community, whose founding principle is living in harmony with nature, by the beauty and diversity of our flora and fauna. Maintaining it as a wildlife habitat has always been our goal. We are aware of our sensitive geographic location on the edge of the ACE Basin and at the headwaters of Port Royal Sound, surrounded by important conservation areas, and of the responsibility to our environment that entails. Bull Point's extensive biodiversity can be attributed to the fact that we are in a maritime forest ecosystem located on the banks of a tidal creek and salt marshes. We have several freshwater manmade lakes and ponds as well. Thus our Spanish moss-draped live oaks-- as well as several other oak varieties , hickory, magnolia, sweet gum, pine, native palm and numerous other trees and shrubs-- provide habitat for an abundance of woodland animals such as deer, foxes, bobcats, raccoons, mink, otter, snakes, insects, rodents, eagles, osprey, owls and other bird species too numerous to mention. The tidal creek and marshes host fish, turtles, dolphins, crab, shrimp, oysters, and many varieties of shore birds. Alligators love our lakes and ponds, especially since they can take a short walk to the brackish waters nearby for a dietary change of pace before heading back to their freshwater homes. Residents of Bull Point want to be known as a wildlife-friendly community that works not only to avoid destroying the things that brought us here, but to improve them if possible-- and certainly to enjoy them. We're fortunate to live in such a beautiful and fascinating place, and we're determined to "keep it wild".
