The Forest Heights Neighborhood is located in Knoxville, Tennessee and is surrounded by the concurrent Interstates 40 and 75 to the north, Highland Memorial Cemetery to the west, the Pond Gap community to the East, and Sutherland Avenue, paralleled by 1897 feet of Greenway, to the south. The neighborhood is comprised of 218 properties on 89.7 acres. The oldest parts of the neighborhood along Forest Hills Boulevard have been listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Forest Hills Boulevard Historic District. The neighborhood was initially constructed in the 1920s and 1930s, though most of the current houses date to after World War II. The early development of Forest Heights was influenced by the rise of automobile travel. The neighborhood was annexed by the city of Knoxville in 1960. On the south end of the neighborhood, there is a 0.8-acre park which is owned by the City of Knoxville and maintained by the Knoxville Public Works Department and Forest Heights neighbors. The park features a paved walking loop, picnic tables, and play equipment buffered by native plants and shrubs.

New Britain Borough (population 3,307) is a largely residential community in central Bucks County. It is home to Delaware Valley University, the Pine Valley Covered Bridge, numerous walking trails and a weekly farmers market. The farmers market provided a unique opportunity to present educational materials regarding the NWF habitat certification initiative. New Britain Borough prides itself on its strong base of dedicated volunteers that maintain most of its parks and other open space. New Britain Borough is home to several parcels of open space including the 34+ acre Wilma Quinlin Nature Preserve where the Borough’s extensive efforts at habitat preservation have been awarded both the Land Ethics Award by Bowman’s Hill Wildlife Preserve and the Pa. Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence. The Preserve is located along the Neshaminy Creek and has numerous trails which are intended for nature study, wildlife observation and bird watching. The Preserve’s “Miriam’s Meadow is a native wildlife meadow established as a pollinator habitat. New Britain Borough also contains Orchard Park which is a 5 ½ acre natural area set aside for passive recreation. The park contains bluebird houses and a large community garden as well as tables and benches for wildlife observation. New Britain Borough supports an annual native plant pop-up park and other workshops as part of an ongoing effort to educate residents on the importance of transitioning their yards and public spaces to benefit birds, pollinators and other wildlife and encourage them to certify their properties as wildlife habitats. The Borough is following these practices on its own properties and has certified its own public spaces.

Branford was first settled in mid-1644 as part of the New Haven Colony and officially renamed in 1653 after the Town of Brentford, England.
