We are a village on Lake Michigan, 35 miles north of Chicago. Our territory includes the Village of Lake Bluff and unincorporated sections, which are the boundaries of the Elementary School District 65. The Village of Lake Bluff takes pride in having Tree City USA and Bird City designations.
We have a wide diversity of ecosystems, bur oak/hickory forest with ravines to Lake Michigan, and remnants of the great prairie. These diverse areas provide a sanctuary for birds and wildlife. In 2020 a small group of residents came together as a Growing Native (GN) community. The group focuses on educating others on the importance of preserving and restoring the native plants, wildlife, and natural wonders that abound in our community. The GN community offers networking and resources about removing invasive species, building habitats with native plants, attracting butterflies and other pollinators, and supporting birds and other valuable native wildlife. The group now has over 160 participants. We look forward to coming together as a community to implement earth-friendly practices that will improve the health of our local ecosystems and give us the Wildlife Federation Community Habitat designation.
