Summary

The Old North State at Uwharrie Point community is located on a peninsula surrounded by Badin Lake and the Uwharrie National Forest. The community was created in 1991 and is home to the Old North State Club which manages a championship Tom Fazio golf course and other recreational amenities including tennis courts, swimming pools, fitness center, lakefront guest lodge, marina, and a full-service clubhouse. The Uwharrie Point Community Association consists of both full and part-time residents. There are 312 completed homes on the peninsula with 165 of them serving as full-time residences. Over three miles of scenic nature trails wind through the peninsula offering residents and guests the opportunity to enjoy a wide variety of wildlife up close. The Old North State Club is an integral part of the community wildlife habitat program that maintains, monitors and reports on over 250 habitats and numerous wetlands within the peninsula. The program began shortly after the golf course was created in an effort to restore lost habitat for bird populations. The program has benefits beyond simply the enjoyment of birds for their beauty. The birds and their various habitats are the subject of frequent educational programs throughout the year and help with pest control around the lake. The community has been heavily involved with wildlife conservation since its inception and prides itself with the creation and restoration of wildlife habitats, management of wetlands, and the planting of native trees and flowering plants to support and sustain local wildlife.
