Wells Branch Wild Conservancy

Neighborhood or HOA

Population: 19500

Summary

About: Wells Branch Wild Conservancy is a non-profit 501(c)3 whose mission is to lead, inspire and engage the Wells Branch community in stewardship of a healthy and sustainable ecosystem. We accomplish this through educational programs, collaborative alliances, and advocacy. Our Vision is diverse, vibrant natural spaces and living creatures in Wells Branch, now and for future generations. Wells Branch itself is a Municipal Utilities District just north of Austin. The public lands of Wells Branch are comprised of 84 acres with 6 miles of trails. Over the past 20 years, impressive progress has been made towards naturalizing these public spaces, resulting in the area becoming well-known for birding and other outdoor activities. The majority of land within Wells Branch is, however, privately owned. In keeping with Doug Tallamy’s work that public lands can no longer sustain the diversity needed for a vibrant and healthy ecosystem, Wells Branch Wild Conservancy was formed by concerned neighbors who are committed not only to supporting the continued naturalization of public lands, but also to transforming the majority of Wells Branch, including individual residences, into diverse, native plant dominant landscapes.
