Summary

The County of Erie is located along the shores of Lake Erie and the Niagara River. As such, it is a vital bird and butterfly migratory pathway, specifically Monarchs on their way down to Mexico. Due to its environmental significance and proximity to the great lakes, this region has been awarded a RAMSAR certification, recognizing it as a wetland of international importance, one of only 37 in the entire country.
