Summary

The City of Calabasas is the gateway to the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area in northern Los Angeles County. The city’s name originates from the Spanish word for pumpkin or wild gourd. Calabasas is a leader in environmental stewardship by adopting such ordinances that require mobile car wash businesses to prevent pollutants from entering the storm drain system, banning retail food establishments from using polystyrene in food-packaging materials, and banning single use plastic grocery bags. Calabasas is the first city in the nation to ban smoking in public places. The city has won multiple America in Bloom awards for its beautiful landscaping, environmental efforts, and historic preservation. It is also recognized as one of the top 20 safest cities in California.
