City of Chamblee

CHAMBLEE, GA

City or Town

Population: 32300

Summary

Located just 14 miles from downtown Atlanta, Chamblee is a vibrant city with a diverse community and international flair. It began as a small rail town, and was formally incorporated in 1908. After World War II, the General Motors plant in neighboring Doraville brought growth in the city’s blue-collar industries, bringing in new residents. By the 1980s, much of the city’s industrial base had downsized, but the city experienced a growth in its immigrant and refugee population partially due to its stock of affordable housing. Through significant downtown development and multiple annexations during the 2010s, the City has grown to more than seven square miles with over 32,000 residents. Chamblee is split between two watersheds, Nancy Creek and the North Fork of Peachtree Creek, located in the Upper Chattahoochee watershed. The watershed is part of the Chattahoochee River Basin, the primary drinking water source for DeKalb County. There are a variety of greenspaces across the city, including nine parks totaling 87 acres, which are home to a variety of urban wildlife, including white-tail deer, raptors and many songbird species.
