Rye is a small city bordering 5.5 miles of coastline on Long Island Sound. It is in south-central Westchester County. Rye has two historic beaches, Playland (an amusement park that is a National Historic Landmark), and three major wildlife sanctuaries. One fifth of the total land area in Rye is devoted to recreation and conservation. The Community Wildlife Habitat team consists of representatives from local environmental advocacy groups and a local nature center.
